Kanpur: A massive fire broke out in a house due to a short circuit in the Kalyanpur area of the city on Wednesday evening, leaving a woman injured, police said.The fire started around 5 pm after a short circuit occurred between two wires near the electricity meter. Within moments, the flames engulfed the entire house, triggering panic among those inside.The house belonged to Amit Verma, a private employee and resident of Purana Shivli Road under the Kalyanpur police station area. His family included his mother Maya Verma, wife Reena Verma, and son Ishu. Amit said that on Wednesday morning he had left for duty, and his wife, child, and mother were present at home.Reena Verma suffered burns while trying to extinguish the fire. Hearing her screams, neighbours immediately informed the police by calling 112.Two fire brigade vehicles and the police reached the spot and brought the fire under control after nearly one hour of intense effort. Police first took the injured Reena Verma to Barra CHC, from where doctors referred her to Hallet Hospital.Kalyanpur police station in-charge Santosh Kumar Singh said that prima facie the cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit. The woman suffered burns while trying to extinguish the fire. Her treatment is underway at the Hallet Hospital and her condition is reported to be stable. tnn
