Kanpur: The proposed elevated road project from Gol Chauraha to Ramadevi Chauraha in the city got approval from the Central Govt to provide major relief to the city’s traffic system.Union minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari shared information about the sanction of Rs 988.30 crore for the project through his X (formerly Twitter) account on February 24.MP Ramesh Awasthi met the Union minister at his residence in Delhi. The MP said that the Union minister would come to lay the foundation stone of the elevated road in April. The MP said that during this meeting, the progress of several development projects was discussed. The minister assured early commencement of construction of the elevated road and gave his consent to come for the foundation stone laying in April.Meanwhile, the Central Govt also approved a budget of Rs 3700 crore for the proposed Greenfield National Highway project from Kanpur to Kabrai. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this highway was approved and the tender process also began.The MP said that he raised the demand for this project keeping in view the increasing traffic pressure, road safety and industrial development needs in the region. With the construction of the Greenfield highway, commuting between Kanpur and Bundelkhand will become faster, safer and smoother. Along with this, new employment opportunities will also be created along with a boost to commercial activities. Both projects will prove crucial in giving a new direction to the infrastructure of the city and surrounding areas.The elevated road from Gol Chauraha to Ramadevi will be 10.2 kilometres long. With its construction, traffic pressure in areas such as Jhakarkati Bus Stand, Jarib Chauki and COD Crossing will be reduced to a great extent. Ramps for ascending and descending from the elevated road will be constructed at all three locations..
