Kolkata: A 31-year-old woman was arrested on Friday in connection with an alleged extortion and threat of false rape and sexual assault case. The accused, Ragesree Gope, a resident of Santoshpur East Road, was produced in court on Saturday with a prayer for police custody.A case against her was registered at Panchasayar PS on April 9 this year under BNS sections 308(7) and 351 (2) following an FIR by the wife of the extortion victim, a doctor. The complainant alleged that her husband was harassed and threatened with implications of false cases by the accused between last Dec and Jan. The victim did not pay any heed to the “unreasonable demands” and blackmailing by the woman who happened to be his ex-patient.Cops arrested the accused from her residence around 5.30 pm on Friday.According to police, two cases of extortion were filed against the woman by those whom she had allegedly implicated in false rape cases before. During the probe, cops came to know that the woman had hitherto filed 11 false cases of rape and sexual harassment against 14 people. “A further investigation is being carried out in this regard,” said an officer.
