Noida: A 30-year-old woman was found dead in a canal in Dankaur on Monday after the SUV she was travelling in with her husband allegedly lost control and plunged into the waterbody. While her family alleged she was murdered and the sequence of events staged to look like an accident, her husband claimed the vehicle plunged into the canal as they were returning from Mathura.Reena had been married to Mohit for around six years and lived in Bhatta village. Police recovered her body from the canal near a checkpoint, along with Mohit’s Mahindra Thar.According to police, Mohit said he lost control of the SUV near the canal while driving back from Mathura. He claimed the vehicle veered into the water, from where he managed to escape, but Reena, seated on the other side, could not get out and drowned.Reena’s family, however, dismissed the accident theory and alleged it was a planned killing. Her brother, Sonu, alleged that Reena was facing marital discord for months and had repeatedly told her family since July 20 that her husband wanted a divorce. “Whenever we approached her in-laws, they assured us everything was fine,” he said.Sonu further alleged that Mohit was involved in an extramarital relationship and wanted to end the marriage. “He killed my sister and threw her into the canal to make it appear like an accident,” he claimed. The couple has a 5-year-old son.Police have sent the body for an autopsy and said the findings, along with other evidence, will determine the course of investigation. Officials said they are examining both the husband’s account and the allegations made by the woman’s family before concluding whether the death was the result of an accident or foul play.
