Berhampur: A 23-year-old woman succumbed to her burn injuries at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, with her mother accusing her husband of setting her afire at their house in Mathura village under Ganjam district’s Khallikote police station limits on Sunday night over a domestic dispute. Deceased Anita Pradhan’s husband Ramesh, a daily-wage worker, also sustained burn injuries and is undergoing treatment.Their relatives had rushed them to the medical college and hospital on Sunday night, however, during the treatment, the woman succumbed to her injuries on Monday morning.Her mother, Bhanumati Pradhan, a resident of Jhadiakhola, has filed a complaint in Khallikote police station, alleging that for the last few days, the couple had been quarrelling because the husband had been demanding money from her. Her husband also allegedly tortured her physically. “We suspected he might have set her on fire, before setting himself ablaze,” she said.Ramesh Pradhan, inspector in charge of Khallikote police station, said they have registered a case based on the complaint of the mother. The exact cause of the incident would be ascertained only after a thorough investigation, he said, adding they are investigating from all possible angles.Police said no one else was present in the house when the incident took place, while some relatives from the same village had rushed the couple to the hospital.They had got married about two-and-a-half years ago and are blessed with a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
