Kanpur: Despite a marginal dip in temperature on Monday, Kanpur continued to grapple with severe heat and humidity, with the “feels like” temperature touching nearly 44 degrees Celsius and warm nights offering little respite to residents. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 41.8 degrees Celsius, 0.6 degrees lower than Sunday’s 42.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature settled at 29.4 degrees Celsius. Warm north-westerly winds and high humidity levels combined to create oppressive conditions throughout the day.According to the weather observatory at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA), the maximum relative humidity was recorded at 52%, but it failed to ease discomfort.North-westerly winds blowing at a speed of 11.3 kmph further intensified the heatwave-like conditions across the city. The heat index remained significantly high, with residents experiencing a perceived temperature of nearly 44 degrees Celsius. The UV index also reached alarming levels of 10 to 12 during midday hours.Doctors advised people to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 10 am and 2 pm, when ultraviolet radiation remains at its peak.Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast mainly clear skies and extremely hot weather for districts including Kanpur, Lucknow and Agra. Some areas may witness partly cloudy conditions accompanied by strong hot winds blowing at speeds of 20 to 25 kmph.Dr S.N. Sunil Pandey, weather expert at CSA University, said increased atmospheric moisture and moisture incursion could lead to cloud formation, gusty winds and the possibility of light rain or drizzle in isolated areas. He added that temperatures across the Kanpur division are likely to fluctuate by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, while humid conditions and warm nights are expected to persist.
