Ludhiana: A 29-year-old woman, Pinki Kaur, allegedly died by suicide after being harassed for dowry in Dholanwal village. The police have registered a case against her husband, Angrej Singh, and her mother-in-law.Pinki married Angrej Singh in 2023. Her brother, Fateh Singh of Rod village, said that their family gave everything they could during the wedding. Despite this, Pinki was reportedly subjected to regular abuse, beatings, and dowry demands by her husband and mother-in-law.On the morning of June 16, the family received a call from Angrej Singh, informing them that Pinki had sustained severe burn injuries after setting herself on fire. She was rushed to Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), Ludhiana, in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries during treatment.Fateh Singh suspects foul play and believes Pinki may have been deliberately set ablaze. He has urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation.Inspector Jagdeep Singh Gill, SHO of Koom Kalan police station, confirmed the incident. An FIR has been registered under sections 108 (abetment to suicide) and 3(5) (criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) of the BNS against the accused. A search is under way to arrest them.
