Kanpur: A 70-year-old woman succumbed to burn injuries after her daughter-in-law allegedly poured boiling water on her during a dispute over ancestral land in Jalalpur village under the Jahanganj police station area of Farrukhabad. The accused has been taken into custody, and police have registered a case and launched an investigation.According to the complaint lodged by the deceased’s son, Benchelal, his mother, Ramvati, had inherited around three-and-a-half bighas of agricultural land after the death of his father. He alleged that his younger brother Kailash‘s wife, Ramadevi, had been pressuring Ramvati to transfer the land in her name and frequently harassed and assaulted her over the issue.Benchelal alleged that on the morning of June 17, Ramadevi again demanded that Ramvati execute the land deed in her favour. When the elderly woman refused, the accused allegedly assaulted her and poured boiling water on her, leaving her with over 70 per cent burns.Ramvati was initially admitted to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Farrukhabad. As her condition deteriorated, she was referred to the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences in Saifai, Etawah, where she died during treatment on Thursday. Her last rites were performed on Friday.Jahanganj SHO Poonam Awasthi said a case has been registered against Ramadevi based on the complaint. A forensic team visited the spot to collect evidence, and further investigation is underway.
