Vadodara: Atladara police have registered a cheating case against a couple after a 33-year-old woman alleged that they failed to return gold biscuits, jewellery and cash worth a total of Rs 6.90 lakh that she had entrusted to them for a proposed solar-panel business partnership.According to the complaint, the accused, Atul Kumar Patil, a resident of Gokul Township near Rameshwar School on Gotri Road, and his wife, Sapna Patil, were known to the complainant, Poonam, wife of Swapnil Bharatbhai Shah (33), who currently resides at Planet-1 on Bill Canal Road in Vadodara.The complainant stated that she stayed with the accused at a flat on Bill Canal Road in Atladara, from May 19 to Aug 28, 2023.During this period, Patil allegedly took four gold biscuits weighing a total of 40 grams and valued at Rs 2.39 lakh from her, claiming they would be used to set up a solar-panel business in partnership.The complainant further alleged that she handed over gold ornaments of various weights, collectively valued at Rs 4.20 lakh, to the couple for safekeeping while she went to her hometown Umreth.However, after returning, the gold biscuits and the jewellery were not returned to the victim after she came back from her hometown. She also alleged that she had transferred Rs 30,000 to the accused, which they failed to return.According to the complaint, the total value of the gold biscuits, jewellery and money allegedly not returned by the accused amounts to Rs 6.90 lakh. Based on the complaint, Atladara police have registered a cheating case and initiated an investigation.
