T’puram: A 25-year-old woman was brutally assaulted with an iron rod during a late-night music festival at St Thomas Church ground in Poonthura on Sunday, with police booking the accused for attempt to culpable homicide.Shamini of Beemapally, suffered a bleeding head injury requiring five stitches after being struck multiple times around 2am on Sunday. Police said she narrowly escaped more serious harm by fleeing the spot.The accused, Nijith of Valiyathura, allegedly attacked her following a personal dispute linked to her marriage. According to police, he verbally abused her before hitting her on the head two to three times with an iron rod.Police said the nature of the attack indicated intent to cause death.The survivor approached Poonthura police station later in the day, where her statement was recorded and injuries documented. She is currently undergoing treatment. Police said efforts are on to trace and arrest the accused. TNN
