GURGAON: A man from Nuh was arrested after a23-year-old woman alleged she was sexually assaulted, blackmailed and pressured to convert her religion.The survivor who hails from Punjab said she was sexually assaulted “multiple times” and blackmailed “using obscene videos” after being lured to his village on the pretext of marriage.According to the complaint, the woman came in contact with the accused through social media nearly a year ago. “The two began interacting frequently after which the accused promised to marry her and convinced her of a long-term relationship,” an officer said. On March 20, the woman was called to the accused’s village on the assurance that he would marry her around the time of Eid, police said.Between March 20 and March 24, she alleged that she was sexually assaulted repeatedly during her stay in Nuh. When she insisted on marriage, the accused demanded that she convert her religion as a precondition. On her refusal, he assaulted her, threatened to kill her and forced her out of the house, police said.After the incident, the woman managed to reach Firozpur Jhirka City police station and lodged a complaint. The officer said, “The survivor statement is being recorded before a magistrate and her medical examination has been conducted.”Now, a case has been registered under charges of rape, criminal intimidation, extortion and provisions of the Haryana Prevention of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2022.The woman said during an earlier meeting at a hotel, the accused raped her and secretly recorded an obscene video on his phone. He then used the video to blackmail her and continued to sexually exploit her over several months, the complainant told police. She said that around Rs 1 lakh was extorted from her during this period on multiple occasions, with the accused repeatedly assuring her that he would marry her.
