Ludhiana: A 25-year-old woman from Ludhiana’s upscale Sunview locality has accused her husband and in-laws of a harrowing campaign of voyeurism, blackmail, and physical abuse. Following a police inquiry, the Sarabha Nagar police booked the husband, father-in-law, and mother-in-law under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including voyeurism, stalking, and criminal intimidation.The victim, who married into the family in May 2023, reported that the trouble began in November 2024 after she discovered her husband was involved in multiple illicit relationships. When she confronted him and threatened to inform her parents, the situation turned violent. The woman alleged that her husband thrashed her and, in a particularly disturbing incident, forcefully dragged her from the bath to film her naked. He then allegedly used the video to blackmail her, threatening to circulate the footage if she exposed his infidelities.Despite seeking help from her in-laws, the victim claimed they chose to support their son rather than protect her. The legal charges now facing the family include Section 77 (voyeurism), Section 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives), and Section 351 (criminal intimidation). The FIR also notes that the husband’s family had accepted luxury cars and diamond jewelry as part of the wedding arrangements. Police investigations are ongoing as the community reacts to the scandal involving one of the city’s most prominent neighborhoods.
