Nagpur: With barely a fortnight left for ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the 2026 electoral rolls, residents of SC-dominated North Nagpur have alleged that booth-level officers (BLOs) have failed to visit their homes to fill the mandatory enumeration forms, in violation of Election Commission of India (ECI) norms. They pointed out that under the prescribed guidelines, BLOs are required to carry out a detailed door-to-door physical enumeration exercise between June 30 and July 29.However, residents say the situation on the ground tells a different story. In areas such as Thawre Colony, Indora, Misal Layout, Bhim Chowk, Kapil Nagar and Sugat Nagar, BLOs have allegedly skipped the mandatory door-to-door visits altogether.Instead of conducting door-to-door verification, residents alleged that several BLOs have been operating from public squares, markets and community grounds, entrusting bundles of enumeration forms to local contacts for distribution within their neighbourhoods and social circles. They claimed the mandatory physical verification of residents is not being carried out, raising concerns over inaccuracies, duplication and omissions in the final electoral rolls.Dy district election officer Rachana Indurkar said instructions would be given to ensure BLOs visit eligible voter’s home in North Nagpur.Residents have also submitted a representation to the Nagpur district election officer and district collector, raising concerns over the alleged lapses in the enumeration process. Rajiv Khobragade, who filed the complaint, said, “With the July 29 deadline fast approaching, the district administration must immediately resume physical house-to-house visits and ensure that the enumeration process is carried out in a proper and transparent manner.”“In Bhim Chowk and Ahuja Nagar, no BLOs have visited our homes for voter registration and many residents are still unaware of the procedure,” said Mangesh Raulkar. “Some political parties have set up camps and are expecting people to come to them, but that is not how the process is supposed to work.”
