Amravati: A desperate race to save an Amravati woman’s life by rushing her to Hyderabad for advanced care ended in heartbreak for the family. If losing his wife wasn’t devastating enough, the man later discovered that a bag containing gold ornaments worth 25 lakh — carried to meet her medical expenses — had gone missing. In the midst of this tragedy, Rajapeth police stepped in and traced the valuables.As per police, Gajanan Wardhe, 52, resident of Sainagar area in Amravati, had been treating his wife, Sangeeta, at a top Hyderabad hospital. On June 29, when her condition deteriorated, Gajanan left for Hyderabad by car with his wife and daughter.Anticipating high treatment cost, he carried a red bag of gold ornaments weighing around 150gm and valued at 25 lakh. After reaching Hyderabad, doctors told them that Sangeeta’s condition was critical and told them to take her back. The family began the return journey in an ambulance, but Sangeeta died on the way.Still reeling from the loss, Gajanan realized the red bag in the car was missing. On July 1, he approached Rajapeth police, who examined footage from 40 CCTV cameras installed at hospitals, hotels and locations on Hyderabad-Adilabad route. The bag was traced near a restaurant in Adilabad. Inside were Sangeeta’s medical documents and gold worth 25 lakh, all intact.
