WhatsApp on Windows 11 is getting web-based overhaul
WhatsApp on Windows 11 version is going to lose native app support and Meta has more or less confirmed this change with the latest beta update. The company is actually looking to replace the app with the web version of the messaging platform that many have used for years.
In fact, Meta has rolled down the curtains for these changes with the latest WhatsApp beta version on Windows that says, “updated how WhatsApp beta looks and works.” This might sound like a minor alteration but Meta plans to change the dynamics that keeps WhatsApp running on Windows devices.
WhatsApp On Windows With Web Interface: What Changes
The big change because of the move to web interface on WhatsApp will be evident when you start using the new version. The UI resembles that of the WhatsApp web platform and the company plans to bring more backend improvements to deliver a fast performance with less bugs facing the users.
The decision to use the web version is basically being done so that Meta developers don’t need to invest extra resources to maintain the native Windows app. The package within the web version will perform faster and the feature updates will be coming to users much quicker than before.
Having said that, the whole purpose of bringing the WhatsApp native app for Windows was to make it run faster and consume less RAM on the system.
The web version will need a Chrome, Edge or other browser to run the messaging app, which means more memory usage demands. If you have been using the WhatsApp native Windows app this change might feel drastic and take some time to adjust to the new version. However, those using the WhatsApp web will feel right at home with the new updated platform.
The latest Android beta update is the first version to come with WhatsApp ads, taking it one step closer to other Meta products like Instagram and Facebook.
Users are seeing Status update ads in the beta version 2.25.21.11 that is available for select beta testers for now. Status update becomes the main hub for ads on WhatsApp and as you scroll through updates from different contacts, the messaging app will place an ad with a sponsored post label.
