Mangaluru: Administrative approval was granted for a Rs 2 crore project to upgrade the sewage treatment plant (STP) at Wenlock District Hospital, one of the major govt hospitals, to enhance its wastewater treatment capacity in line with current requirements.Wenlock hospital has a capacity of 905 beds and comprises a total of 21 buildings. The existing STP unit has a capacity of 350 KLD and functions using the upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) method. Due to several operational and maintenance issues, district minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, who is also the health minister, earlier held discussions with officials and decided to upgrade the facility.
As per the plan, the existing civil infrastructure will be utilised, and new sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and collection tanks will be constructed. With the installation of required machinery and equipment, the STP will be upgraded to a capacity of 500 KLD. Administrative approval was granted for the Rs 2 crore project, and orders were issued to invite tenders for the execution of the work, stated a release.
