Kanpur: Despite a marginal dip in mercury and partial cloud cover, residents continued to reel under intense heat and sultry weather conditions on Thursday, with high humidity and warm winds making conditions uncomfortable throughout the day.The weather observatory at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA) recorded a maximum temperature of 39.1°C, 1.1°C lower than Wednesday’s 40.2°C.The minimum temperature also dipped to 28.1°C, but humid conditions prevented any significant relief overnight.North-westerly winds blew across the city at speeds ranging from 5.2 kmph to 8.8 kmph but failed to provide relief.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is little possibility of respite from heat and humidity in the coming days. The department has forecast mainly dry, hot and partly cloudy weather across Kanpur division over the next 24 hours, with maximum temperatures likely to range between 40°C and 43°C.In Kanpur Nagar, bright sunshine and haze are expected during the day, while light cloud cover may prevail at night. The maximum temperature could again rise to around 42°C, while the minimum is likely to hover between 31°C and 34°C.Chances of rainfall remain low, at 10–20%. Weather expert Dr S N Sunil Pandey of CSA University said increased atmospheric moisture would lead to cloud movement, haze and stronger winds. He added that isolated light drizzle or rain, accompanied by gusty winds and thundercloud activity, may occur in some pockets. He further said temperatures in the division may fluctuate by 1–2°C on Friday, but humid conditions are likely to persist.“Warm night conditions may prevail, and heat intensity is expected to increase once the sun comes out,” he said.
