The IMD has issued a red alert for parts of Himachal Pradesh, warning of extremely heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash floods, landslides, mudslides and a rise in river and stream levels.

NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red’ alert for parts of Himachal Pradesh on Monday, warning of extremely heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides.Heavy to very heavy rain is also likely across several states in north, east and northeast India, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected in many regions.

IMD alert for Monday

According to the IMD, extremely heavy rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast over Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.Heavy rainfall is also likely over Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Kerala, Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected across several parts of the country, with gusty winds likely in isolated areas.

Delhi-NCR weather tomorrow

Delhi-NCR is likely to witness rain and thunderstorms, with heavy rainfall possible at isolated places. The IMD has forecast an active monsoon spell over the region over the next few days.

Himachal weather tomorrow

The IMD has issued a ‘red’ alert for parts of Himachal Pradesh, warning of extremely heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash floods, landslides, mudslides and a rise in river and stream levels.According to the weather office, the most intense spell is expected on Monday and Tuesday, and residents and tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain away from rivers and vulnerable areas.

North India forecast

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir, while Rajasthan may witness heavy rain and thunderstorms at isolated places.

East and northeast India forecast

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya.Heavy rain is likely over Jharkhand, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Central and west India

Heavy rainfall is forecast over Chhattisgarh and West Madhya Pradesh, while widespread showers are expected across Konkan and Goa.Scattered rain is also likely over Gujarat, central Maharashtra and Marathwada.

South India

Rainfall is likely over Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu, with thunderstorms and lightning expected in several areas.

Monsoon update

The southwest monsoon is expected to remain active over large parts of the country during the next three to four days, with widespread rainfall continuing over northwest, east, northeast and central India.The IMD has warned that heavy rain may trigger localised flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas, particularly in the Himalayan states.
