NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rain across several parts of the country on Thursday, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over parts of east and northeast India.Heavy rain is also expected in parts of the Himalayan region, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely across several states.Hot and humid conditions are expected to persist over parts of north and south India.
IMD weather alert for Thursday
Very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.Heavy rainfall is also forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Uttarakhand.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.Parts of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka and Telangana may also witness thunderstorms with gusty winds.
Delhi-NCR weather tomorrow
Delhi is likely to continue witnessing isolated rain activity. While no heavy rainfall warning has been issued, the IMD has said hot and humid weather is likely to persist over Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.
North India forecast
Rainfall is expected to continue over parts of the western Himalayan region, with Uttarakhand under a heavy rain forecast.Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are likely to witness scattered rainfall over the coming days, with heavier spells expected in some areas later this week.
East India forecast
Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal are likely to receive very heavy rainfall at isolated places on Thursday.Heavy rainfall is also expected over Bihar, Jharkhand, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, while thunderstorms are likely in parts of Bihar and Jharkhand.
Northeast India forecast
The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.Heavy rainfall is likely across much of the region, with rain activity expected to continue over the next few days.
Central and west India forecast
Parts of Madhya Pradesh may witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.Rain activity is expected to continue over Chhattisgarh, while Gujarat, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra and Kutch are likely to receive scattered rainfall.Konkan and Goa may also continue to see rain.
South India forecast
Rain is likely over Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Lakshadweep.Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are expected in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana.
IMD’s latest forecast
The weather department said heavy rainfall is likely to continue over parts of east, northeast and northwest India over the next three to four days.Rain activity is also expected to persist over parts of central and southern India, while hot and humid weather may continue over parts of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.The IMD has advised people in areas under heavy rain alerts to remain cautious due to the possibility of waterlogging, reduced visibility and localised flooding.
