Srinagar, Feb 13: National Conference (NC) General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar on Friday expressed grief over the demise of senior party leader Qamar Ali Akhoon.

In his condolence statement, Sagar said, “Qamar Ali Akhoon Sahab was not merely a party leader; he embodied unwavering integrity, simplicity, dedication, and selfless service to the people of Ladakh, especially Kargil. Our personal association spanned more than three decades, forging a deep friendship filled with cherished memories. Professionally, as my Minister of State in the Public Works Department, I witnessed firsthand his exceptional administrative abilities, extreme honesty, and people-friendly approach.”

From his early days in public life to his tenure as minister, he remained a steadfast advocate for justice, development, and the rights of the marginalised in remote and far-flung areas, Sagar said, adding that the late Akhoon’s tireless efforts in bridging community divides, pushing for improved infrastructure, education, and welfare initiatives in Kargil have left an indelible mark that will be remembered for generations.”

He added, “In his passing, we have lost a bold and principled voice championing Ladakh’s aspirations within Jammu & Kashmir—a true son of the soil who never compromised on his values, even in the most challenging times. His humility, compassion, and steadfast commitment to the National Conference’s core ideals of secularism, brotherhood, and inclusive progress have inspired countless party workers and leaders, including myself.”

The NC leader said the void created by his departure is immense and difficult to fill. He extended deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
