Srinagar, Feb 13: National Conference (NC) Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the Kashmiri Pandit community on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri, locally celebrated as Herath.

In his message, Dr Farooq described the festival as one of profound religious, historical and cultural significance for the region. “Since time immemorial, Herath has been celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour, symbolising Kashmir’s timeless spirit of harmony and coexistence,” he said.

He said the festival rejuvenates the bonds of brotherhood and unity that define the Valley’s pluralistic ethos. “Herath resuscitates the unique cultural and civilizational identity of Kashmir,” the NC chief said adding, “An identity that remains incomplete without the cherished presence and contributions of our Kashmiri Pandits.”

He expressed hope that the occasion would usher in peace, prosperity and renewed togetherness among all communities. The party’s rank and file also conveyed their warm greetings and best wishes to the Pandit community on the sacred eve of Herath, praying for happiness and well-being for all.
