Canacona: Residents in Canacona are facing hardship due to water shortage and frequent pipeline ruptures across the taluka. In the past six days, the situation at Char-rasta has been difficult, even though reservoirs are available at Chapoli and Gaunem.Canacona’s regular water supply has been disrupted by repeated pipeline bursts since early 2026, causing distress to residents.Councillor Hemant Naik Gaonkar said authorities are trying to identify an alternative supply line as backup so that people are not affected.“Every possible solution is being explored by us and I am extending my support to the staff working here,” said Gaonkar.Major leakages have also been reported in areas around Shristhal, Morkhard, and Mastimol.Mastimol councillor Pandurang Naik Gaonkar said that while thousands of litres of water are wasted daily due to leakages, residents’ taps remain dry, and it is time for the authorities concerned to introspect over the prevailing situation. In some locations, the water shortage has persisted for over a month.Former Shristhal sarpanch Kisan Naik Gaonkar said that despite repeated complaints, repair work is often delayed or carried out slowly. As a result, residents are forced to depend on water tankers or other unsafe sources. He also said the pipeline at Char-rasta frequently bursts, leading to wastage of thousands of litres of water daily.
