Bhubaneswar: Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO) has initiated a fresh bidding process for the implementation of a 24×7 water supply system and underground sewerage network in Town Planning (TP) scheme areas 1, 2 and 3, covering the fast-developing stretch from Tomando to Chandaka on the city’s outskirts. The infrastructure project, estimated at around Rs 318.10 crore, includes both a dedicated water supply network and a comprehensive sewerage system for the three TP scheme areas being developed by Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA).As part of the water supply component, WATCO plans to develop a 24×7 distribution network supported by transmission pipelines, elevated service reservoirs, household metering and an automation system to ensure uninterrupted supply and efficient monitoring.Officials said the water supply infrastructure will include nearly 171 km of distribution network, multiple reservoirs and over 5,100 household service connections. This will enable residents in the emerging urban pockets to receive round-the-clock potable water.Meanwhile, the sewerage component will involve the construction of an underground sewer network, pumping stations and a 20 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP). The project also includes nearly 5,000 sewer house connections, helping create an integrated urban infrastructure system in the planned development zones. The move comes at a time when the BDA has made significant progress in implementing the town planning schemes aimed at creating planned urban growth corridors with roads, drainage, water supply and other civic amenities. “The TP schemes in the Tomando-Chandaka belt are being seen as key growth centres for Bhubaneswar’s future expansion,” BDA vice-chairman Chanchal Rana said.
