Mangaluru: Several months after a schoolgirl died in Padnur following wasp stings, a wasp nest spotted on a roadside tree in front of the KSRTC depot at Mukrampady in Puttur was removed Friday evening after residents raised fears it posed a threat to the public and schoolchildren, said Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai.The nest had been spotted a few days earlier. Residents said the wasps were inconveniencing pedestrians and other road users, while monkeys seen disturbing the nest heightened fears that any damage to it could provoke an attack.Acting on the complaints, Rai directed his party workers to take immediate steps to remove the nest. The matter was also brought to the forest department’s attention. The nest was subsequently destroyed, with more than 50 party workers and locals taking part in the operation.
