Chandrapur: In another blow to Congress in the district, former Chimur MLA Avinash Warjurkar and former zilla parishad president Satish Warjurkar are set to formally join BJP on Thursday. On Wednesday, the Warjukar brothers met chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai to formalise their induction in BJP.Satish Warjurkar contested the 2019 and 2024 assembly elections from Chimur on a Congress ticket, but suffered defeat. He blamed factionalism in the party for his defeat. Over the years, Congress in Chandrapur district has been plagued by internal strife and the party suffered defeat in the Chandrapur District Central Cooperative Bank elections and lost control over the municipal corporation, despite being the largest party. Satish Warjurkar indicated a similar situation could unfold in the upcoming zilla parishad elections. Speaking to the media, he said the rift within Congress had left them disillusioned and they decided to switch sides. BJP’s Chimur MLA Kirtikumar Bhangadiya was also present at the meeting in Mumbai.
