Thiruvananthapuram: A vocational training centre has been opened at Grama Jyothi Special School in Nedumangad with the support of Technopark-based Allianz Services India. The centre will focus on empowering over 150 young adults with various disabilities by equipping them with skills, resources and opportunities they need to thrive and achieve their full potential in building independent, meaningful and sustainable futures.Spanning over 5,000sq ft, the centre comprises three classrooms designed to deliver tailored upskilling and training programmes across various sectors, including a bakery unit, food processing unit and cleaning materials unit. Its specialised programmes are designed to equip individuals with practical skills and knowledge, foster independence and enhance employability. By focusing on these key areas, the centre aims to create sustainable opportunities for differently abled young adults, prepare them with future-ready skills and enable them to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the broader economy, officials said. The event also featured the unveiling of a newly constructed ramp facility to the first floor, ensuring accessibility for all and promoting inclusivity and equal opportunity. The school also provides rehabilitative interventions such as speech-language therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy to support the holistic developmental needs of the students.
