Berhampur: Forest officials in Ghumusar North division in Ganjam district have used the thermal drone camera to drive away the lone elephant from Kulad. “The elephant fled into the forest area on hearing the sound of the drone camera,” said Himansu Sekhar Mohanty, divisional forest officer (DFO), Ghumusar North. The sound is like that of the honey bee. “When our staff could not reach the place due to the mud, we used the drone to drive away the elephant,” he added.He said currently two lone elephants, including a tusker, are roaming in the forest areas in Jagannath Prasad, Tarsingi, Mujagarh and Gallery ranges, after they got separated from their herds. The tusker has damaged paddy caplings in Kulad area. Farmers urged forest officials to drive away the elephant and demanded compensation for the loss. The elephant squad is also monitoring its movement. The lone female elephant was now staying in Chandragiri reserve forest area, forest officials said.
