Namakkal: Villagers in Chellipalayam staged a road blockade on Tuesday, over irregular supply of drinking water.Around 600 families reside in Chellipalayam, under Devarayapuram panchayat in Erumaipatty union. Residents said they have not been receiving regular supply of drinking water for the past six months. They added that they have already submitted multiple petitions to the Erumaipatty union office and the district collector’s office.As no action was taken on their complaints, over 50 women staged a sudden protest by blocking the Namakkal-Thuraiyur Road in Chellipalayam with empty water pots. The protest disrupted bus and vehicle movement on the stretch.Protesters dispersed after Erumaipatty police and revenue officials held talks and assured them that drinking water would be supplied regularly.
