Chennai: TVK president Vijay will file a supplementary affidavit in Perambur on Saturday to correct discrepancies in his nomination papers for the 2026 elections, including details related to pending cases against him and his age. While his nomination papers filed on Monday in Perambur assembly segment stated that there were no FIRs on him, the nomination filed three days later in Trichy East said there were two FIRs. One was registered by Greater Chennai Police at Peravallur station for causing inconvenience to the public during his rally in Perambur held after filing nomination on Monday. The second case relates to an FIR filed by Madurai police during the party’s second conference in 2025. The FIR was based on a complaint from a person who said he was a supporter and alleged that Vijay’s bouncers assaulted him when he tried to climb onto a ramp used by the leader. Vijay said that he was not aware of the 2025 FIR since he did not receive any information or summons from police regarding the case. However, he mentioned it in the affidavit filed in Trichy East since he got to know about it only after he filed nomination in Perambur. There was also a discrepancy in age. Documents submitted in Perambur indicate his age as 52, while the affidavit filed in Trichy East lists it as 51. Former Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalswami said that returning officers are generally inclined to accept nominations unless there is clear suppression of facts. He noted that Vijay has now declared the cases in his Trichy East filing, establishing his bona fide intent. If the matter is taken to court, the ruling could be in his favour, he said.
