Varanasi: After the video of biryani party on a boat in Ganga, another video has gone viral on social media on Monday, showing the consumption of beer on a boat. ACP (Dashshwamedh) Atul Anjan Tripathi said the police are investigating the matter. It is not known where that video is from. In Varanasi, a morning procession is taken out by the Manjhi samaj (boatmen). They left by 5:30-6 in the evening on Sunday. This community takes out a morning procession every year. After that, in the night, they gather at Chhoti Sheetala Mata temple. People from nearby districts also join them. Then people set out from here and reach the Badi Sheetala Mata mandir in Mirzapur at night, where they perform puja, and return the next day after afternoon.Meanwhile, the people of Maa Ganga Nishadraj Seva Nyas on Monday submitted an application to the ACP Dashashwamedh, demanding a fair investigation and action against such antisocial elements. The general secretary of the organisation said that the boatman community strongly condemned the incident. The viral video should be examined properly, and punitive action should be taken against those involved in it.Earlier, during Ramadan, a video went viral, showing an iftar party on a big boat and allegedly disposing of bones and waste of biryani in the Ganga. The police arrested 14 men under sections 298 (defiling a place of worship with the intent to insult a religion), 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 196(1)(b) (promoting enmity between different groups on the ground of religion), 270 (public nuisance), 223(b) (disobeying public servant’s order) of BNS and also section of Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974.
