Patna: Sleuths of the Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) conducted searches at the residence and office of a govt peon in Bhojpur district after registering a disproportionate assets (DA) case against him for allegedly amassing wealth far beyond his known sources of income.The case has been lodged against Shivanand Kumar Singh, a peon posted at the first class veterinary hospital in Gadhani block, under the Prevention of Corruption Act. VIB officials alleged that Singh possessed assets worth Rs 1.06 crore in excess of his known income.A preliminary probe found that Singh and his wife, Chandni Singh, had allegedly acquired 34 immovable properties valued at around Rs 1.11 crore. Investigators also traced three vehicles worth Rs 17.24 lakh and bank deposits of Rs 68,233. According to the bureau, the couple’s assets were 253.8% higher than their known sources of income.Acting on a warrant issued by the Special Vigilance Court in Patna, three VIB teams carried out simultaneous searches on July 22 at Singh’s residence, office and another linked location in Bhojpur. The raids continued till late at night.During the searches, officials recovered documents related to property transactions and financial investments, including three land agreement papers, 15 land purchase deeds, 12 land sale deeds and a mortgage deed. Records linked to five bank accounts were also seized for scrutiny.The Bureau is further examining documents related to a Mahindra Thar SUV and two motorcycles allegedly purchased by Singh or his family members.Officials said on Thursday that the recovered documents are being analysed to verify the source of funds used for acquiring the assets. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, they added.
