Patna: Bihar Legislative Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes on Thursday as ruling NDA and opposition members clashed over the police action against protesting students in Patna, forcing Speaker Prem Kumar to adjourn the House within 10 minutes of the start of proceedings.The opposition protested Wednesday’s police action against students demanding the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak controversy.Earlier in the day, opposition MLAs staged a sit-in protest in the Assembly premises, raising slogans against the BJP. They also demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pradhan.Soon after the House convened, members from both sides engaged in a heated confrontation, triggering uproar and near-scuffle-like situations. Urging legislators to maintain decorum, the Speaker reminded them that the House was “not a battlefield” and asked them to return to their seats.Amid the ruckus, BJP MLA Shyam Babu Yadav, whose vehicle was allegedly vandalised during the protests, claimed the attackers were not students. “I was attacked. My guards were attacked. I could have been killed on Wednesday. They were goons belonging to a political party,” he said.RJD MLAs alleged that the day’s events would be remembered as a dark chapter in the Assembly’s history, accusing ruling party members of branding student protesters as “goons”.Parliamentary affairs minister Shrawan Kumar alleged that the agitation had been instigated by political parties and criticised the role of RJD and Congress leaders during the protests in Patna.“Action in accordance with the law will be taken against anyone found guilty in this incident,” Kumar told reporters.
