Sasaram: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB), Bihar, on Wednesday arrested a panchayat secretary in Rohtas district while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs12,000. Mrityunjay Pandit, posted in Terasan panchayat under Karghar block, was caught red‑handed while accepting the bribe amount. According to DG Vigilance J S Gangwar, the Bureau is committed to taking strict action against corruption. Gangwar said the action was initiated following a complaint by Dharmendra Kumar Patel of Terasan village, who alleged that the official had demanded money to clear pending payments under a govt housing scheme. A total of Rs24,000—calculated at Rs2,000 per month from April 1, 2022, to April 1, 2023—was due, and the accused allegedly sought Rs12,000 as illegal gratification to process the payment.After verifying the complaint, a team led by superintendent of police Sita Sinha apprehended the accused near Terasan Mor while he was accepting the bribe. He will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Patna.
