Patna: Twenty-four beneficiaries from Bihar who reduced their electricity bills to zero through rooftop solar adoption were honoured on Thursday at ‘Solar Mela 2026’, organised by the Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (PESU). The event also felicitated the top 10 vendors for installing the highest number of rooftop systems and five employees of the energy department associated with the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.Energy secretary and chairman-cum-managing director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, Manoj Kumar Singh, inaugurated the fair and spoke about different forms of national service. “Some serve by wearing the uniform of the armed forces, while others contribute in different forms. Ordinary citizens can also serve the nation in their own way,” he said.Emphasising that global warming remains a serious global challenge, he described the scheme as a historic step. “Your contribution to controlling pollution and promoting green energy demonstrates your dedication to the nation,” he told the Solar Champions.“Under the initiative, participants can avail completely free electricity. Both the central and state govt are making every possible effort to connect the common people with this scheme,” Singh said, directing banks to dispose of applications within 10 days and not seek unnecessary documents. PESU general manager Dilip Kumar said the mela would help citizens choose suitable vendors and technologies.
