Panchkula: With the monsoon setting in and heavy rainfall forecast in the coming days, Panchkula police have prohibited entry near rivers, drains and dams across the district to prevent accidents during the rainy season.DCP Srishti Gupta has imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, with immediate effect. The order will remain in force till August 28 and aims to safeguard lives and property from flash floods, strong currents and whirlpools.Under the order, entry near the banks of all natural and man-made rivers, drains, tributaries and dams within Panchkula district — including the Ghaggar, Kaushalya and Tangri rivers — has been strictly prohibited.Police said people frequently visit these sites for recreation, sightseeing and making social media reels, often risking their safety. Entering riverbeds, dry riverbeds and water bodies for personal, social, religious or political activities has also been banned. The restriction does not apply to govt officials engaged in flood-relief operations and other official duties.The district police have identified 13 highly sensitive flood-prone locations for special monitoring. These include Ghaggar Bridge near Shani Mandir in Sector 21, both sides of the Ghaggar Bridge at Majri Chowk, Burj Kotian, Diwanwala, Chandi, Thapli, Balu Thapli, Barun and Chamla villages along the Ghaggar River. Other vulnerable spots include the Tangri River near Barwala Bridge, Khetparali village, the Tangri near Morni T-Point at Raipur Rani, and both sides of the Mallah Bridge on the Kaushalya River.ACPs and SHOs have been directed to conduct regular patrolling and ensure strict enforcement of the order. Police warned that violators will face legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
