New Delhi: What police initially believed was an illegal arms recovery took a surprising turn after investigators uncovered an alleged plot driven by a family vendetta. A 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly planting three country-made pistols in his brother-in-law’s rented house in northeast Delhi’s Welcome and tipping off police under a fake identity.The conspiracy came to light during investigation of an Arms Act case against Mohammad Ashraf (29), registered at Welcome police station. On Friday, police arrested Ashraf’s brother-in-law, Mohammad Waseem (28), a resident of Sunder Nagri, from his mobile repair shop.Police said Waseem initially tried to mislead investigators by giving false statements but eventually confessed to hatching the conspiracy against his brother-in-law. During questioning, he told police that Ashraf had married his sister-in-law against the family’s wishes.Driven by this resentment, Waseem allegedly planted three country-made pistols at Ashraf’s house on different occasions.DCP (Northeast) Rahool Alwal said, “Using the fictitious name ‘Arjun’, he later informed police about the concealed weapons to implicate Ashraf in an Arms Act case. Acting on the tip-off, police recovered one country-made pistol from Ashraf’s house and arrested him on July 16.”Based on Waseem’s disclosure, police later recovered the remaining two country-made pistols from the house after he revealed the exact locations where he had concealed them. A fresh case was registered and Waseem was arrested, police said.
