New Delhi: Fifteen years after a commission agent was shot dead and robbed of Rs 8.5 lakh in east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar, Delhi Police crime branch has arrested the last absconding accused in the case.The accused, Naushad alias Mohammad Kamare Alam (37), a native of Bihar’s Saharsa district, carried a reward of Rs 10,000 and had allegedly been evading arrest since 2011 by frequently changing hideouts and concealing his identity. He was apprehended near Shastri Park Flyover following sustained technical surveillance, human intelligence and field verification, police said.The case pertains to the murder of Atul Jain, a commission agent in Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar market, who was shot dead on March 6, 2011, in Laxmi Nagar. According to police, Jain was returning home carrying cash collection when five men allegedly intercepted him with the intention of robbing him at gunpoint.Police said that when Jain resisted, Naushad and another accused, Bhura, opened fire on him before fleeing with the cash. Jain was taken to Dr Hedgewar Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.An FIR was registered at Shakarpur police station under Section 302 of the IPC, with provisions relating to robbery and criminal conspiracy added during the investigation.DCP (crime) Harsh Indora said, “While four co-accused were arrested, charge-sheeted, and later convicted by the trial court, Naushad remained absconding by hiding his identity to avoid arrest.”Police said Naushad, who is married, had been earning a living by selling second-hand garments in weekly markets across Delhi while remaining on the run.
