Patiala: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested sub-divisional officer Hardeep Singh, posted at the PSPCL office, Kup Kalan sub division, Malerkotla, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.Disclosing this here on Thursday, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the accused was arrested following a complaint lodged by a resident of Bhogiwal village in Malerkotla.He said the accused inspected the complainant’s house and claimed that unauthorised electricity meters had been installed. The accused then demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to allow the meters to continue functioning. The complainant recorded this entire conversation.Unwilling to pay any illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau, Patiala range. Following a preliminary enquiry, the VB team laid a trap and arrested the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station, Patiala, and further investigation is underway.
