The final farewell of Manipur MLA Vungzagin Valte took a poignant route through Mizoram on his journey back to Churachandpur after passing away in Delhi. Among those who gathered to honor his memory were prominent figures such as the CM’s advisor and the Central Young Mizo Association.

Aizawl/Churachandpur: The mortal remains of Manipur’s Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte, whose final destination will be Churachandpur in Manipur, were brought via Mizoram on Sunday after he died in Delhi on Saturday following nearly three years of medical treatment.The body was flown from Delhi and arrived at Lengpui Airport at 3pm. The cortege left Lengpui on Sunday evening and reach Aizawl’s Thuampui Helipad.On behalf of Mizoram CM Lalduhoma, adviser to the chief minister (political) Lalmuanpuia Punte attended the reception at Lengpui Airport.Later, a farewell ceremony was held at the Bawngkawn South YMA Hall in Aizawl, where the Central YMA offered floral tributes and draped the traditional Mizo mourning cloth (puan) over the mortal remains. A few ministers and other dignitaries were also present to pay their respects.Later in the night, around 10pm, the body will be taken to Khawdungsei village in Mizoram, near the Manipur border. On Monday morning, the mortal remains will be taken by road to Manipur.The pall-bearers will continue to travel from Mizoram to Manipur through the night, before proceeding to Khokon near the Manipur–Mizoram border, according to the schedule. They are expected to cross the Tuivai bridge on the Manipur–Mizoram border on Monday morning. After crossing, the Zomi Youth Association (ZYA) leadership will pay tribute to their departed leader. The pallbearers will then travel through Phaitong, Khajang, Sumtuk, Mualpheng, Dialkhai, and Vaipheimual to allow villagers to pay their last respects, before reaching his home constituency, Thanlon. The funeral team will then proceed to Mulnuam, his birthplace, and finally to his home in Churachandpur, where he will be laid to rest. The cortege is expected to reach his residence at New Lamka around 11pm on Monday.BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte was attacked by a mob on May 4, 2023, while returning home from the residence of Manipur CM N Biren Singh.PM Narendra Modi expressed grief over Valte’s demise, describing it as deeply saddening. Lalduhoma also conveyed his sorrow through social media, stating that Valte’s untimely death was not only a loss for Manipur but a profound tragedy for all Zo communities across the northeast.
