Dhubri: Regular passengers at Rupsi Airport in BTC near Dhubri are facing difficulties due to frequent flight cancellations.Since mid-Dec 2025, nearly 40 flights operated by Alliance Air have been cancelled. The airline began operating four weekly flights from Rupsi to Guwahati and Kolkata in Oct 2024.
Sources at Rupsi Airport said flight schedule operations are four days a week: Sunday (Kolkata-Rupsi-Kolkata), Monday (Guwahati-Rupsi-Guwahati), Tuesday (Guwahati-Rupsi-Kolkata), and Friday (Guwahati-Rupsi-Guwahati).However, the schedule has seen minor changes recently, leaving many passengers unaware.Kuntal Bhattacharjee, an Airport Authority of India (AAI) official at Rupsi, told TOI that cancellations were mainly due to poor visibility. “If visibility falls below five kilometres on a given day, flights are cancelled. Since mid-Dec, nearly 40 flights have been affected,” he said.Bhattacharjee added that the long-term solution lies in installing an instrument landing system (ILS), which has not yet been set up at Rupsi. “The matter is under discussion at higher AAI levels, and hopefully, the system will be installed within a year,” he said.Passengers, however, expressed frustration over poor communication. Regular flyer Bhagawati Bajaj complained that passengers are often not informed in advance. “Sometimes we only learn about cancellations after reaching the airport. If ILS is required, it should be installed immediately,” Bajaj said.
