Vadodara: The Gujarat govt unveiled a 20-year economic roadmap for Central Gujarat, positioning Vadodara as a future bioeconomy powerhouse and Chhota Udepur as a sports goods hub, as the state sharpens its push for expanded industrial growth and large-scale investments.Deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi announced the master plan at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Vadodara on Monday. He said the blueprint charts district-wise growth with sector-specific strategies and aims to attract new industries across the region.Sanghavi said Vadodara will be developed as India’s largest bioeconomy hub, while Chhota Udepur will emerge as a manufacturing centre for sports equipment, marking a shift towards specialized industrial clusters.The plan forms a key component of the Viksit Gujarat Industrial Policy 2026, under which the state aims to attract Rs 10 lakh crore in fresh investments over the next five years. He said the initiative reflects a focus on balanced regional growth and decentralised industrial expansion.Chief minister Bhupendra Patel said Central Gujarat has become the developmental heart of the state, contributing significantly to sectors such as manufacturing, engineering, pharmaceuticals, food processing and MSMEs. He added that the region plays a critical role in India’s manufacturing supply chain.Sanghavi said Central Gujarat accounts for a substantial share of Gujarat’s industrial output, with exports crossing $20.5 billion in 2025–26. The region has more than 65 industrial estates and around 24,000 operational plots.Patel said Vadodara has already emerged as a major centre for petrochemicals, speciality chemicals, electric vehicle equipment and aerospace manufacturing, including the Tata Airbus C-295 aircraft project, while Anand continues to lead India’s dairy sector through the Amul brand.
