Jaipur: Three labourers, including two women, were killed and three others were injured after the wall of an under-construction septic tank collapsed at a hotel in Jaipur Monday afternoon.The accident occurred at around 12.50pm at the premises of a hotel near Tala Mod on the Jaipur–Delhi Highway (NH-48) in the Chandwaji police station area.More than 20 labourers were working inside the septic tank at the time of the accident.Authorities said Civil Defence teams were the first to reach the site and begin rescue operations. Rescue teams, assisted by local residents, pulled trapped workers out of the debris, with the injured being shifted to NIMS Hospital, where three of them remain under treatment. A few workers were released from the hospital after receiving first aid.According to officials, workers on the site had completed part of the septic tank’s wall construction and were carrying out soil-filling work at the time of the accident. Those inside the pit were buried under debris, while some of those working above sustained injuries.SP Jaipur (Rural) Hanuman Prasad Meena identified the deceased as Rinku Devi (32), Savita Devi (30) and Ramji Manjhi (28). Their bodies have been kept in the mortuary of NIMS Hospital.“A high-level inquiry has been ordered into the incident, and strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible,” cabinet minister Jogaram Patel said. The investigation will examine whether mandatory safety standards were followed during the construction work.Police said CCTV footage from the work site would be examined to determine whether there was any negligence behind the incident. They added that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found responsible.“We have launched an inquiry to ascertain whether all mandatory safety measures were in place,” district collector Sandesh Nayak said. He added that compensation from the CM Relief Fund would be provided to those affected by the accident, and that the hotel owner has also been asked to extend assistance to victims’ families.As a precaution, SDRF and Civil Defence teams continued clearing debris at the accident site even after the dead and injured had been dug out to ensure no worker remained trapped beneath it.Officials said all the deceased and injured labourers were from outside Rajasthan.
