Keralam chief minister V D Satheesan

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) will convene a meeting of its office-bearers and all district Congress committee (DCC) presidents on Oct 13 amid growing differences in the party over chief minister V D Satheesan’s style of functioning, delays in board and corporation appointments and the proposed organizational revamp.KPCC president Sunny Joseph convened the meeting after he met Satheesan recently. It is scheduled for 3pm at Indira Bhavan. The public criticism of the chief minister by UDF convener Adoor Prakash is expected to be a major issue at the meeting.Prakash had alleged that the chief minister was not consulting party leaders adequately and had questioned the manner in which key decisions were being taken. His remarks have triggered a debate in Congress: One section of functionaries views the criticism as a serious disciplinary issue, while others argue that his concerns cannot be dismissed outright. The delay in sharing board and corporation posts among UDF constituents and in appointing chairpersons is also likely to come up for discussion. Congress leaders have expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of clarity on the issue, and some have complained that coalition partners were given cabinet-level positions while Congress leaders were overlooked. The proposed reorganisation of KPCC and DCCs is another item on the agenda. However, as the special intensive revision (SIR) issue gains momentum, the party may focus primarily on planning protests at the state and district levels rather than proceed immediately with organizational changes. The meeting is also expected to consider ways to improve coordination between the Congress organisation and the govt. A proposal to constitute a committee of senior leaders for this purpose could come up for discussion. Deepa Dasmunshi, AICC general secretary in charge of the state, is also likely to attend the meeting.
