Hyderabad: Irrigation and civil supplies minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday urged party workers and contesting candidates to intensify their outreach in Nizamabad and work to bring the Nizamabad municipal corporation back into the fold of Congress.Addressing a meeting of party workers and candidates in Nizamabad, Uttam said surveys indicated that people wanted change and claimed Congress could win 40 out of 60 divisions in the civic body and secure the mayor’s post. He asked the party cadre to reach every voter and focus on winning support across the city.Uttam, who is in charge of all urban local bodies in the Nizamabad parliamentary constituency, described the civic polls scheduled for Feb 11 as crucial for the party in Telangana’s third largest city. He said the election was among the most prestigious for Congress and linked the outcome to expectations of the municipal corporation benefiting from the state-wide urban infrastructure push being pursued by the Congress govt. He told workers that strengthening the party’s position would help place the city at the next level in development.Congress campaign has been intensified under Uttam and TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud. Uttam also referred to recent electoral trends, noting that in the 2023 assembly elections BJP had secured the Nizamabad Urban seat while Congress improved its vote share, and that the 2025 parliamentary polls saw BJP retain the Lok Sabha seat as Congress gained momentum. He said that in previous municipal elections BRS held the mayoral post, with BJP and AIMIM establishing strongholds, while Congress was pushed to the margins.Uttam said the party’s target was to win all 60 divisions and secure the mayor’s chair. He asked cadre to focus on BC, SC, ST and minority communities, and to highlight what he described as BJP’s failure to develop the city’s civic infrastructure and BRS’ decline, while projecting Congress as a force promising development and inclusivity.
