New Delhi: Delhi Police has warned of strict action against people spreading misinformation on social media regarding the Uttam Nagar lynching during Holi. The warning came after some social media handles claimed that a minor had gone missing from the area.Police clarified that the juvenile referred to in the posts was an accused in the case and sent to an observation home by Juvenile Justice Board.“There is a lot of misinformation regarding the missing report of a minor from Uttam Nagar. It is clarified that two juveniles were apprehended in this case. One of the juveniles was apprehended on March 5, and the news articles circulating pertain to this missing juvenile,” said DCP (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh.Police emphasised that spreading false rumours was a criminal offence and could invite strict legal action. “Any attempt to spread rumours or misinformation is being closely monitored through regular social media patrolling. Social media handles on platforms such as Facebook, X and Instagram are under surveillance. Those attempting to disturb the peaceful atmosphere will be promptly booked,” the officer added.Police said the situation in the area remained under control and adequate security measures were in place on the ground.Fourteen people have been arrested in the case. Police said stringent provisions of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were invoked, along with relevant sections related to murder.
