Ranchi: To strengthen enforcement against single-use plastic (SUP), the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has urged citizens to actively use the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) SUP grievance app, available on both Android and iOS platforms. The app allows residents to report the use, sale and illegal disposal of banned plastic items through photo-based complaints, enabling quicker civic action.According to RMC, the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to implement the nationwide ban on single-use plastic, which came into effect on July 1, 2022.The civic body has been conducting regular inspection drives across the city to monitor violations and take action as per rules.Official data shared by the corporation highlights the scale of enforcement. From April 1, 2025 till date, action was taken specifically against single-use plastic carry bags, with 50 challans issued, a total penalty of Rs 1,81,220 imposed, and Rs 1,49,500 recovered.Officials said this reflects both regulatory action and the need for wider public participation to improve compliance. RMC said, “The SUP grievance app has been activated by CPCB to make complaint registration simple and transparent. Citizens can upload photographs and report banned plastic products such as plastic straws, disposable cups, plates, spoons and carry bags. This helps ensure quicker action on violations.”City residents noted that while enforcement drives and penalties continue, long-term success would depend on consistent regulation, availability of alternatives, and responsible consumer behaviour.
