In a dramatic turn of events, Odisha police have captured a prime suspect linked to a Rs 15 lakh gold jewellery heist that rocked Bokaro. Nisar Ali, infamously known as Kala, was taken into custody at his home.

Bokaro: A key accused in a gold jewellery theft case in Bokaro has been arrested from his residence in Odisha’s Nuapada district, police said on Sunday. The accused was identified as Nisar Ali alias Kala.Bokaro SP, Harvinder Singh, on Sunday said that the case was registered at Bermo police station after a complaint by Rajendra Prasad Das of Petarwar on March 29 alleging theft of gold ornaments worth around Rs 15 lakh from his jewellery shop at Phusro Bazar. Another case involving a similar modus operandi was earlier registered at Chandrapura police station. Investigators suspected an organised gang targeting jewellery shops by distracting shopkeepers.“Following analysis of CCTV footage, call detail records and technical surveillance, a joint team of Bermo and Chandrapura police traced the accused to Odisha,” the SP said.Police said that Ali confessed to carrying out jewellery thefts along with an associate by engaging shopkeepers in conversation before fleeing with ornaments. Police recovered stolen gold items, including chains and earrings weighing around 65.19 grams, worth around Rs 8 lakh, and a mobile phone.Officials said the accused had prior criminal history and was earlier lodged in Koraput jail. Further investigation is underway to trace other members of the gang.
