Hyderabad: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, on Friday urged people not to be lethargic but to actively participate in the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.“The BJP wants to remove your names from the voter list through SIR and question people’s citizenship. Even the AIMIM will take all steps to ensure it is a hassle-free exercise,” Owaisi said while addressing a gathering at the Youm-Ul-Quran held at Jamia Masjid Mahboob Chowk in the Old City. The SIR of the voters’ list is scheduled to begin in April in Telangana and booth-level officers (BLOs) have already started linking names with the 2002 electoral roll.Highlighting that the Supreme Court will hear the Citizenship Amendment Act case in May, Owaisi urged people to be vigilant and ensure their names are correctly enrolled in the SIR process, regardless of the outcome. The Hyderabad MP also condemned the demolition of a dargah in Vemulawada, calling it a deliberate assault on religious freedom. “Bulldozers are running over the properties of Muslims in BJP-ruled states, and now a dargah has been demolished in Telangana too,” he said.Expressing concern, Owaisi said there has been an alarming increase in hate crimes, mob violence, and targeted attacks against Muslims across the country. He also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel, alleging that the Indian govt is aligning itself with forces responsible for the oppression of Muslims while remaining silent on atrocities committed against minorities.“PM Modi could have condemned Hamas and also the violence unleashed by Israel in Gaza and Palestine. Even after declaring a ceasefire, Israel continues to kill people in Palestine. Israel is a racist country where roads for Jews and Palestinians are different,” he alleged.AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi alleged there is little difference between the BJP and Congress in their approach towards Muslims. “In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP govt’s bulldozers are demolishing dargahs, mosques, and Muslim homes. In the Revanth Reddy-led govt in Telangana, demolitions of Muslim religious shrines have also begun. These drives are not aimed at curbing illegal encroachments but at selectively targeting Muslim properties,” he said while speaking at a programme on Thursday.
