Silchar: Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs 5 crore has been seized and two persons arrested from a house in Eraligul in Sribhumi district.Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team from Patharkandi police station, led by OC Manash Jyoti Boro and assisted by Baraigram police, conducted a raid at the residence on Thursday night. During the search, carried out in the presence of independent witnesses, police recovered 73,399 Yaba tablets, weighing around 8.455 kg, sources said.
The house owner, Kabir Uddin, managed to flee before the police team arrived. However, his wife Rehana Begum and another individual, identified as Injamul Haque, were apprehended from the premises.Both the arrested persons were taken to Patharkandi police station for questioning and were grilled for several hours, sources added.On Friday, a case was registered against the duo under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and they were produced before a court, which remanded them in judicial custody. Police have launched a manhunt to trace Kabir.Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the consignment.
