Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) is likely to participate soon in the auctions for coal bed methane (CBM). The coal company, with over 130 years of extensive experience in coal exploration, may get an opportunity to explore CBM resources in coal seams if it secures a block in the auctions.Senior officials from the Union ministry of petroleum and natural gas met the chairman and managing director (CMD) of SCCL, Buddhaprakash Jyoti, on Friday and encouraged the company to participate in the exploration auction for three major blocks identified in the Singareni region.They noted that several blocks have been identified across various states for CBM production, including the Pranahita–Godavari Valley region. The Ministry of petroleum plans to conduct an auction to facilitate exploration activities in these blocks.Officials advised Singareni to make effective use of this opportunity. The three major blocks identified in the Singareni region cover six districts: a block spanning Mancherial, Peddapalli and Komaram Bheem districts, with an estimated resource of 500 crore cubic metres; a block in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, with approximately 200 crore cubic metres; and a combined block covering Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mulugu districts, with around 1,200 crore cubic metres.Based on preliminary assessments, the total methane gas resources in these three blocks are estimated at approximately 1,900 crore cubic metres. Additional director general of the Ministry of petroleum and natural gas, Sachiv Kumar, and other officials attended the meeting.
